Week 6 Tuesday

Today in class we had a prototyping session. I am still unsure which direction my project is going as I have two very different concepts I want to explore. I started by creating a survey to confirm my assumptions and gain some insight into what students want.

These were my survey questions:
  • -          Do you enjoy cooking
  • -          What is your go to meal when you cook
  • -          How often do you cook
  • -          What stops you from cooking more?
  • -          Would you rather buy takeaways than cook yourself?
  • -          Why would you rather buy food than cook
  • -          What do you usually buy if you don’t cook
  • -          How did you feel the first time you had to cook for yourself
  • -          How much are you willing to pay for a my food bag type service?
  • -          Would you like to gain more skills and recipes that are cheap and easy?

These were the results:

And the answers to the open-ended questions were:

what is your go to meal when you cook?

  • tortillas x 2
  • pasta based dish x 6
  • curry
  • spag bol x 3
  • eggs
  • marinated chicken drumsticks and roast veges

  • Carbonara x 2
  • cheese toastie x 2
  • chicken udon noodles, butter chicken or burgers
  • tacos

  • omelette
  • Roast vegetables with meat

Why would you rather buy than cook food?

  • cheaper
  • healthier
  • easy
  • something I can't cook
  • quick
  • tired of thinking about food, buying it, cooking it,paying for it, eating it, and then cleaning up
  • less effort
  • taste better / better quality
  • better variety
  • money
  • less cleaning
What do you usually buy if you don't cook?
  • pizza
  • thai
  • burgers
  • sushi
  • chinese takeaway
  • uber eats
  • fish and chips
  • indian
  • kebabs

How much are you willing to pay for a my food bag type service?

  • $80
  • $70
  • $40 - $70
  • $100
  • $55
  • $120
  • $40- $50
  • less than $60
  • $30- $50
  • cheaper than other food bags

Mark gave me some advice and ideas on where to go next. I need to narrow down my concepts a bit more and use Friday's prototyping session to ask people what they think about them and during the meantime observe cooking in a flatting situation.
